Raven’s Personal Log 19
The green was at rest. My spirit soared to new heights as my beloved and I gathered our family. The play was real again. The actors once more friends and loved ones. The star calling was unable to speak when I was in the arms of my love. I basked in the warmth of him for days but the star would not be held off forever. My greatness still needed to be found.
Too many days slipped by with no word of the Pack. My mind raced through my plans again. The Pack was not acting like those of the green.Something or someone larger was holding their hand. I pulled my phone from my pocket and thought of Peter. He was a good tool for my needs in this shadow play, in another place and time we might have been friends. I dialed Thorne.
“Thorne.”
“Greetings, Peter. This is Seeker. Anything interesting going on lately.”
“Good evening, what can I do for you tonight?” Peter seemed pleased to hear my voice.
“The pack has been to quiet and I need to have something else to look into.”
“Not a single drug related killing has occur since the train episode,” he responded
“Yeah, that worries me but I need to move.”
“What about the Side Street Slasher?”
“Hmm, that one is good. What info do you have on her?” I asked, remembering the near escape back when the play was real. “What area does she kill in now?” I thought of the building bursting into flame and of watching the dance ofthe light as the green flame consumed the building and the dead within.
“Same as before… an area of about 17 square blocks.”
“No shift in the center?”
“None reported, but we also haven’t had a murder in that area in nearly a week.”
I smiled with a hope that she had perished in the flame. “She might have moved. Any spree of missing?”
“Perhaps, but no evidence as yet.”
I sighed. “You have anything on the table that might need someone poking about?”
“Not at the … what?” I heard him cover the mouthpiece. His voice returned to the phone. “Seeker, we have a small problem at the Seattle Center Mall. Mall security tried to take two women into custody, for shoplifting of all things. One of the two women burned him badly … literally burned. The SPD has just received the call and will not be able to get there for at least three minutes. Apparently they left the store and have gone back to shopping. The first is approximately 25, 5’11”, 135 pounds, waist length red hair, blue eyes, dressed in blue jeans, cream colored sweater and sky blue down vest. The second is approximately 18, 5’7″, 120 pounds, brunette, hair to the middle of her back, blue eyes, dressed in black jeans and a red sweater.”
“Okay, thanks Peter, I am on my way and I will be calling you for a favor later.” I took three steps and leaped into the air and continued straight up. I turned to face towards the mall and blinked to my line of sight.
My arrival was before the others so I slipped into the building to check the mall map. Two women walked by me. They fit the words Peter had spoke. I radioed quickly as I faded to be as the air. “They’re here I am at Marshall’s. Inside. I will follow. Hurry guys.” I slip behind them and followed.
Cat radioed. “If they look really good could you get some photos?”
Redhead spoke “… burn the place down, Daf … you know I don’t have to shoplift for Christ sake …”
Daf replied. “I know, Ron, you know how stupid guys get around you.”
Ron said. “Well, he isn’t going to be groping anyone for awhile!”
Daf commented. “He thought you had something on you.”
Ron raised her voice a little. “Like what? Like I’d keep it THERE!”
Daf grinned. “You didn’t have to roast him like that … he was kinda cute …”
The evil inside me peeked out as I tripped the firey red head, Ron, to slow their pace. The redhead stumbled and stops, looking around. The brunette turned and stared right at me. “We have a mentalist, Ron … TK tripped you.”
The redhead turned to look at the brunette. “Aim me, I’ll smoke him out!”
“You may as well show yourself …” Daf announced. “I can see everything you do.”
I moved byother people that were talking and radioed. “I have been made, dudes get a rush on it”
“You can’tfool another mentalist …” Daf continued.
Ron suggested. “Go invis and hunt him down.”
“You got it, boss lady. ” Daf answered as she to faded in to the air
I quickly opened my mind and scanned for the one called Daf. My mind failed me;neither Daf or Ron appeared in my mind’s eye. I moved closer to the redhead. Warmth soothed my chilled bones.I looked to see the source and realized the one called Ron emitted the heat. I opened my mind and touched hers, within her head I saw no fear.
Ron looked right at me as she screamed. “Get out of my head!” Her body exploded into flame.
Another mind pierced into mine. My mind declared. “Raven of the Fireoak Forest!” I pulled my mind to grab a fire extinguisher. It floated and fired and doused the flaming woman in gas.
Ron screamed. It was not a scream of pain … oh no … It was a scream of pure anger! The flame pulsed around her, as it expanded it began burning everything within 12 feet of her. Clothes, people, carpet, walls, everything within range burst into flame. The redheads’ clothes vanished as a young man stepped around the corner of some shelves. A wave of heat washed over him, the shirt and all that he wore above the waist burst into flame.
Hawkins radioed. “Fire at the mall!”
Ron shouted.” Alright! This really pisses me off!” Her flame still was burning bright.
Hawkins swooped into the store. His shield protected him from the flaming inferno. He flew straight as an arrow toward the burning figure. His flight, though true, came within inches of her as she dodged away from him.
Cat mouth hung open as he spoke. “God are you hot!! Pun intended. What do you think your doing?”
Ron spat out her reply. “Getting attacked, yeesh!”
Hawkins looked at the flaming one and said in a cold voice. “Intelligent beings are not on my normal diet normally but in your case I might make a exception.”
Ron seemed agitated. “And I have never cooked a talking bird before.”
Cat screamed. “Someone call a doctor!”
I could stand no more of her firey death to the people of the green. I moved in a blink to her back and raked my claws along her back. The tips skittered across her force field and a fire spread over the gloves. I smiled as I spoke. “Gee, finally I get to be warm. Anyone got marshmallows?”
A strong young male with skin the color of cold metal turned the corner. His face showed his anger at the flaming one. His movements were quick as he jumped her and took her into his arms. The massive muscles of his arms bulged as he squeezed her. Ron went limp in his arms but the flame moved across his skin and enveloped him. Cat and Blue took care of wounded as others at the mall grabbed fire extinguishers and sprayed the fire. More people ran and screamed to exit the building and trampled each other as they raced to escape the already handled situation.
I opened my mind and searched for her companion and found nothing.I turned back to our new friend. He was Iron Golem.I left him holding our captive as I went to aided the wounded. He held her until the police arrived, then the fire department and finally a van from Stronghold. We put her in a fire proof suit and let her be hauled off to Stronghold that was located somewhere else in the land of green called New Mexico.
Our new member was taken to his new home. There was much for each of us to learn from one another, and to teach. But my mind drifted to my love and my children;homeward I went to make sure it was real. The star did call me and I turned from it, I embraced the play that was real and my spirit danced in it.
