If I Had You When Life Began
By Domma Leigh (2002)
If I had you when life began,
Would I have heard your words over the party and the band?
Would I have stood in disbelief, feared the truth, turned and ran?
Would I have fought to be with you and taken a stand?
If I had you when life began, what would I see?
A heart so pure of love calling out to me,
Begging to be understood and set free
Wanting someone to unlock the love, with loves key.
If I had you when life began,
Would you have seen me for who I am?
Would you have held me, making a life plan?
Would you have carried me to your dream’s land?
If I had you when life began, what would you see?
A woman- child innocent of the world and so naïve.
Fearing that again, the one she loved would leave,
Just a soul hungry for love that would last an eternity.
Two hearts beating so much alike caught in world’s miles part.
Each living a life with false loves that only hurt when they did depart
The agony seeping within, each having the pain tear apart their heart
Only in the world of if, think of love that could have been from the start.
