Choose to Change
by Martin Scott Matyear IV
Why can’t I change? Why Can’t I Choose?
To do something more, than this drug I abuse.
Stuck at a stand still, while life passes me by.
Yet I just can’t get my fill, of injecting this high!
High?! Now that’s a contradiction in terms.
Since ending up low, is where I seem to hold firm.
And guilt, Oh my God! Is so damned intense!
If this conscience was cash, it’d add up to three cents.
The lie, the deceit, the mistrust that I’ve caused…
My friends equal null, for my friends I’ve since lost.
Why? Well hell, I gave them all up for dope.
Figured, “Who needs friends! With a syringe I can cope.”
I know, this was stupid, never once looking up.
Too damned busy, drawing water, for a hit from my cup!
Once I’m through-I do- look up, take in my surrounds and see..
Surprisingly, nobody want to be around me!
Now I ask, “Is this how anybody should live?”
If this be my fight, Well Uncle, I give!
Now I’ll apologize, for assuming,
the answer to my questions you’d bring…
It’s time I take a look in the mirror…
And ask myself the same thing.
