I stayed near the pit of hot sand, using it to cool my blood. I was bound to this place till someone was able to take charge of my Son. William entered the warehouse with bags in his arms. He dropped them and came to us pausing to play with Josho. His eyes shone of new life, unlike the coldness he had in them when I meet him. His place was nearly finish. My son, my number one mate would join me in the home of the new people. He called me from the sands and we sat together his one arm around me and his smiled down on my son. He was such a good man and would be a fine mate for my people.

Cat making a trip back for Mystic, entered with huge amounts of things. I went to aid him but turned to William giving the last of the money Spock had given me. “I think we will need refreshments,” I suggested.

William smiled brightly; “I will be back in a flash sugar pie.” He left out the door and disappeared.

Cat and I unloaded the many things Mystic owned and placed them in the office. It was hard work but was made light by the cheer my little brother brought to me. William returned with food and drinks. We paused to eat. Cat informed me that it should be a few more trips before they where finished gathering his things. My tummy turned and I excused and William released me. He understood my request, he learned so well.

My radio sounded as Red Eagle radioed “This is Red Eagle, everyone make their way to ‘military base’ on the double. There’s a situation going on.”

Alex radioed “On my way. Be there ASAP!”

I radioed to them, “To which way is this base Sir Red.”

“CAT! Trouble!” I turned to William, “William will you care for Josho.” He smiled and nodded placing a kiss on my forehead. I sounded off again. “CAT!!! Red used the radio said for us to go to a military base.”

I kissed my son and handed him to William, “William don’t leave this building

“Cat, can we go now?”

“Let’s go.” He said eager to get in the fray.

I walked to his car and waited

Red Eagle voice seemed urgent as he radioed “Drakeon, don’t do anything till I get there, we need to assess the situation. Raven and Cat, what are your ETA’s?”

Drakeon radioed “All I am going to do is act as scout. I will not fight them till you arrive. Drakeon out”

Cat said, “Do you want to drive? I don’t need us in jail as the city comes down around our ears.”

I replied, “Okay how do you drive?”

I heard curses over the radio as Red Eagles motor bike sputtered to a halt. He was out of gas. I was anxious to arrive at the scene, “Cat are we there yet?? How much longer??

Cat pulled aside the road about a mile away from the destination, “We get out and run from here. I don’t need anyone to see Cat drive this car.”

“Okay let’s run than.” I opened my mind to see what was going on up ahead. I grabbed the metal rod that laid in the back seat of Cat’s car thinking it might be useful. As we arrived one of the soldiers was over by Drakeon. He was aiding him much better than I could.

I looked at the bubble in the air that held two men. I tossed the pipe to Cat and he understood and threw it at the craft. I open my mind and tried to direct it. I failed. The pipe hit the chopper and bounced off. The chopper flinched away but swung around toward the two hummers. The chopper’s belly turret spun around and launched five rounds at us. Five rounds of Hamburger Express burst in and around the Hummer, reducing it to rumble. The Soldier beside Cat was blasted into parts, spraying us both with blood and guts. I felt nothing. No sorrow, no pain. I just accepted the lost of the man’s flame. My little brother was tossed back at me and he scrambled to his feet. The force of it blew my hair. I was looking onto another play, spinning a story out before me but removed from it

Archer appeared beside me. He took me into his arms and carried me off to the side of a building. “Are you trying to get killed?” his voice trembled and than screamed, “Cat!”

I looked past his eyes and pointed to Cat who had made it further into the compound, “He is there.”

“Get your ass under cover!” he shouted at Cat, than turned to me leaning into my ear, “Don’t you get killed… I have a vested interest in you” Archer glanced back up at Cat “Hey! Where are you going? What has this team got? A collective death wish?”

Cat screamed back, “Getting those Grooowwwllll!”

Chameleon radioed “I am on my way tell me where.”

Cat Radioed, “Is there anyone else out there? I have an attack copter that’s trying to turn me into Swiss cheese.”

Chameleon radioed “On my way be there quick.”

I tore away from his arms and moved east along the wall till I could see the bubble and the one who controlled the craft. I reached out with my mind eye and numbed his mind. The bubble dropped, smashing into the building, hard! The ceiling of the building partially collapsed but the blades of the rotor continue to turn. I opened my mind eyes to locate the evil.

Archer had moved to Drakeon and kneeled beside him. He covered the bloody wound with a hand. He stood up but Drakeon stayed motionless. Archer looked around, “Where’s Cat?”
Archer slipped up behind me, laying his hand on my shoulder.

“How’s it look?” Archer asked me.

My blood boiled to his touch, as I spoke, “There is 12 minds” She points to the building. Two in the flying bubble.”

Archer squeezed my shoulder “okay…we have to be careful we don’t hurt innocents, we need to let that copter get off the roof before it collapses and kills everyone in there…can you get that pilot to fly away from the building?”

“If I can be next to him I can.”

“You got it, love.”

I smiled at his words. He pulled me into his arms and desolidies the both of us. Archer flew us both toward the copter. He yelled above the roar of the engine.

“Let me get us inside before you try it!” He flew right through the rotor of the chopper, the blades passing through us. He passed into the interior of the chopper. Pressing his lips my ear, he spoke, “now!” I opened my mind eyes to the pilot’s

Ghost Archer solidified inside the passenger compartment just behind the pilot and gunner.
I spoke clearly to the man, “Land this on the ground.” The bubble lifted off the building as the gunner turned around in surprise at the sound of my voice. I smiled sweetly at him, as Archer
pulled his katana in a single stoke, bending low to clear the top of the chopper.

He slipped the blade under the man’s chin and saying, “I am not the one you need to worry about, and she is … Don’t move a muscle. She is a little jumpy.” The tone of his voice was strong and I knew it was the blade he spoke when he said she.

Cat radioed, “We have hostages. An attack helicopter that is being taking out and I’m about to go in.

Red Eagle radioed “Cat, this is Eagle, can you see any terrorists or others holding the hostages?”

Chameleon radioed, “Helo is enemy”

Archer radioed, “Helo is captured, Chameleon.”

Red Eagle radioed “Okay guys, give me the situation, how bad is it?”

The helo dropped to the ground, landing in the open area outside the building. I open my mind eye again into the pilot’s mind. “Please step out and wait for a kiss from me.” I commanded. The pilot of the chopper climbed out of his craft without a word.

Archer griped the gunner by the shoulder. “Get out!” he growled softly. He slipped out after the gunner then drew an entangle arrow and whacked him with it.

I pushed the pilot to his knees and than motioned him to sit on the ground as I bent over him. “Wait for me here and I will give you that kiss.” I spoke softly as I stoked the man’s face.

Archer glanced at me with a smile. As I walked away to find Little brother I heard him say, “Tease….” Archer pulled another entangle and popped the pilot. He leaned over the pilot and grinned “Sorry but no kiss for you.”

Red Eagle roared up on his Harley, finally having filled up his cycle with gas. He shouted over the radio “Guys? Hello? What’s going on, is everyone alright?” Archer turned and stepped over the hole in the roof, peering down “Anyone hurt?”

I open my mind and touch the soldier’s mind that Cat spoke with.

Archer radioed, “Red Eagle, this is Archer. Glad to see you.”

Red Eagle radioed “Archer! What the hell is going on, is there some kind of radio blackout going on? Who’s injured, what the HELL is going on?”

Archer radioed, “We’ve got things under control, if you can get the Army in here to pick these guys up. It was three guys, apparently soldiers.”

The horror in his mind unfolded into mine. “His name was Paul Tibbits and he is an ex-soldier that was experimented on, with a new type of drug. This building is the sole storage area for the drug he and his two men are addicted too. Their supply is almost gone. They need the drug to keep the ‘edge’ they have in physical power the drug gives them.” The pain of withdrawal edging in the connection reminding of my own blood pains. I gently left his mind trying to sooth him as I slipped from him.

Red Eagle walked up to the nearest army personnel and informed them that “Things are under control, you’ve been requested to clean up.” The Soldiers closed in on the compound gathering up the prisoners on the ground…

“Cufean.” I broke the link but stayed in the eyes of Paul.

“Yes, Raven?”

“Take the drug from this building for me.”

Archer stepped up beside me with his eyebrows raised. “Drugs?” He turned and dropped into the interior of the building, I followed.

“Yes, the drug they wanted is over there.” I pointed to where Paul had believed it to be, “I wish the drug.”

” Ladies,” Archer bowed, “Gentlemen” he bowed again, “I understand you have a drug stored here. May I see what you have going?”
Raven smiled at Cat

A Man spoke up, “I am sorry, Ghost Archer, this building and its contents are classified Top Secret and property of the Government”

“I see…”

I opened my mind to him and ordered, “Open the vault of drugs.” I picked up a vial that laid on a table.
Archer gently laid his hand on my arm. My blood warmed. “Lov … we can’t take in all. We can’t even take a sample, legally. This is a government installation.”

I replied in truth, “I have no bindings to the green laws.”

“And they can shoot us for even being in here.” He lean close to my ear and whispered, “We can clear this place out but later. Trust me.”

I nodded slowly. He looked into my eyes and I was lost in them. He smiled and wink. Trust him is what he requested and I could not refuse him. He was the one.

I turned to the people of the government and swore a curse to them, “May the flame burn you for all time to come.” I turned, Archer than moved to door of the building.

“Okay, people, let’s get out of here!” Archer sounded both on the radio and in the room. He turned once again to the man “Sorry about that, sir. She is not familiar with our laws.” He handed the vial to him. He took me and Cat by the elbows and guided us from the building as he hissed, “Trust me, Cat.”

The burning inside of me was mounting again. I could not stay with him for long periods of time. I had so much to think of. I made my excuses and open my locket. In the sands and flame I rested for a moment and cleansed the blood of the dead from me. I returned to the room of the Mansion.
I made my way to the library and waited for the other. Everith walked through the door, her face still cold, but the air of ice around her warmed a trifle. She carried her character book with her, under one arm. “Evening Everith.”

The rest of the group slowly appeared in the room. Even Valoki, who was now very mad at me for leaving him with Cat flew in. The play started up once more but this time I felt just a little more part of it. Archer was ever present. I could not keep my eyes from him nor keep from his words. I tried my best to maintain in front of the others the proper manner but Everith felt ill from our actions.

Chatter from all around filled the room. Archer offered to find Valoki a female of his kind. Valoki didn’t believe he could. Red Eagle joined us and I greeted him and the old ones, he spoke for them and said, “I say hi, 1 ignores you and 1 asks when you’ll have my child … Shut up Grandfather.” He shook his head and headed for a seat, as he gave me his greeting to, “Hi Raven.”

It was Chaos in the room as the many voice talked quickly. Chameleon walked in and Valoki flew to her. He curled on her shoulder and kissed her. My spirit was happy for him, for he had found a friend too. Cat muttered “Lucky dragon.” then smiled.

My mind kept wandering, I wanted back to the compound, back to the drug. Finally Archer agreed to take me back to the compound to the vault of dark potions. He pulled me close and we flew into the night. He stopped several hundred yards from the base and placed us down in a dark corner.

“Can you mind scan the area and let me know how many people are in the area?” His request was a simple one.

I opened my minds eye wide, “Three are within.”

“Take my hand and go invisible.” He held out his hand and I took it on command and faded to the state of nothingness. He to left the view of eye but his hand held tight and I could feel his presence next to me. He led us along the fence. He pulled us straight at the razor wired fence; I had no fear of this for he held me and the fence passed through my being. He continued to move us across the compound. He stepped through the wall of the building, pulling me with him. Archer stopped just inside, scanning the room for the three targets. I tapped a map on his hand left and right to show him where they where. I open my mind and gently touch his as he returned to the view of the eye

Archer whispered “I hear you…” I spoke into his mind of the three locations. “I am going to get them…if you see one ego blast him.” Gently I agreed in his mind. “You can’t hold your telepathy and attack…not hesitate to defend yourself.” Again I agreed in his mind. He lifted my hand he still held and placed his lips upon. He faded into nothingness as he released me.

I hide in the dark and opened my mind to scan, releasing the warmth of his mind. He moved to the first and the mind fell silent. His spirit in my scan moved to the next. The two so close I was unsure of who was who. Another fell silent. I held my breath and focused harder. The stone and steel of the green made it harder for my mind to see. He still stood for he moved to the last. Only one stood, the third fell into the silence. Archer appeared suddenly beside me with a chanting whisper, “come out, come out.”

I laid my hand on his arm. He smiled. His cool hand slide up to steal the warmth and posses my hand within his. He took me to the central part of the building. On either side of the room were two huge steel reinforced doors with a large spoke wheel in the center. I looked at the wheel.

“Time lock vault.” He whispered and grinned.

I spoke softly back, “The green measures everything.”

He desolidified us and stepped into the vault. It was a sightless place where no light traveled. He held up his hand and a ball of light formed and floated to the ceiling hovering above us lighting our way. The vastness of the room was great. He opened one of the cabinets and hundreds of the vials lay inside. I careful took some of them hiding them in my cloak and holding some in my hand.

“There must be thousands of these.” He spoke as anger crept across his face.

Now that I had secured the vials into my cloak, I stated, “The rest must be destroyed. This government is dark. They will use it on innocent.”

“Yes…they have in the past.”

“This is your land I have no right to judge.” I was not here to judge the land, I was here to collect mates. I again stepped over my bounds of my teachings.

He shook his head. “’tis no decision.” Archer pulled an arrow out of his quiver “Open all the drawers and cabinets. ” He commanded and I obeyed. As the last was open he stepped to my side drawing me into him. “Come on.” I melted in his firm grip and smiled at his touch thought my blood heated. Through the vault wall we travel, one arm trailing behind, the hand holding an arrow. He dropped the arrow just before his hand entered the steel. Within the vault sound a very faint blast, muffled but 12 inch of armor. I just buried myself in his chest and took in his scent

“Let’s do the other one.” He smiled, kissing the top of my head. We quickly completed this room as well and again the blast faintly sounded as we left. He looked in the main room and spoke, “One more thing.” He stepped over to the computer humming on the desk and taped a few buttons. Thank the flame for Cat explaining the paperless book “This thing is secure.” He pulled an arrow out of the quiver and spun it in his fingers, then jammed it down on top of the computer. The computer explodes, ripping the hard drive to fragments, as he carried me away in one swift motion.

In the silence of the night we flew in the air. My spirit burning as I laid against his strong heart beating in my ear. “Take me to the waters of the green.” I requested. He wanted to know if I wanted cold or something warmer. I didn’t care. I wanted to see the sun over the water rising to the new day.

We landed in a far away place. My blood boiled but I wanted to be with him and not hide in the coolness of the flame. I secured the vials in the pockets before I dropped his cloak from my shoulders.

“If the water was to try and claim me would you come for me?” I asked lost in his green eyes.

“I would.”

I waded into the ocean with his protests echoing. I just stood still as the waves splashed over me in a burning cold, “With you I do not fear the water, with you I do not fear the cold, with you I only fear one thing.”

He walked out to me. His smiled warmed and he knelt in the water beside me, “What is that?”

” I fear your rejection,” I turned to my head to face him over my shoulder. My blood still burned red hot, the water cool it slightly. I placed my hand on his face, my fingers where cold as ice. He looked so confused by me.
“You need not be confused my one and only love. You never have to love me like her.” I turned into him and kissed him lightly on his lips. “With out you I am nothing.” A wave pushed me closer into him.

“Please don’t let me define you.” He looked saddened but it was al ready to late. I was already changing. “If that were true, I would be nothing now.”

“The want and need does it to me.” I tried to comfort with my words, “How can I be anything when I can’t control myself. I can’t control my self as long as I burn. I can not stop the burning without you.”

He tried to change the subject, He was all too good at that with his questions, and “We had best get you out of this water, lest you’re burning cease for all time. He started to stand but some how was held in place. “I don’t know what I can do, Raven.”

I pulled myself close to him and held tight. The ice of the waters burned me from with out and the flame of the inside boiled but in between I was cooled and my mind free to think. “I am doomed Sweet Cufean. Doomed with my mark and my life. I am but a pawn in the great ones eye.”

He pulled me close, his body warming me. Cufean lifted us again into the air and floated to the cloak. I ran my hand through the hair that clung to his face brushing away from his expressions.

“Where shall I take you, little elf?” he bent over to retrieve the cloak. I smiled seeing he had claimed my second most wanted treasure. “I like your cloak. It has kept me warm in the land of the cold.”

Archer smiled “Then please keep it.” He pulled the cloak up over your shoulders.

I looked deep into his eyes and smiled softly, “Dreams are such pleasure and such pain.”

He smiled back at me, “I must teach you our music sometime.”

“I will learn anything you will teach me.” I said. His arms again around me and holding me tight, lifted into the night. The cloak held in my warmth as the air chilled my exposed skin. After a small time I asked, “May I make a request of you.”

“Yes”

“During my period of rest, which is only a span of your 4 measures of green hours, could you.” I paused, “would you please stay beside me? Just stay with me nothing else.”

I heard the smile on his lips as he answered me, “Yes, I will do that. Spock, library, and light the fireplace, give me a couple of quilts and some pillows. Also some hot cocoa.”

I smiled under his oversized cloak and took in all the scent that was him. I felt the beam touch us but my eyes stayed close. I stayed in his arms even when I heard the sounds of the fireplace and the smell of the wood being consumed by the flame.

“This Library is the room just outside my bedroom, I spend most of my time here.” He informed me.

“Yes, I read those books down there.” I opened my eyes and lifted my hand to point to those I had read. It seemed a life time ago I had laid in this room and read. “It is a very big room. Why do you need so much room?”

Before a newly lit fire, quilts had been spread and pillows arranged. On the table was a tray with a pot of something hot and sweet and two mugs.

“My home is huge. This manor, is huge. In the past I have had dozens of people living here…now it is only a few. Come…let’s get you into something warmer” Cufean led me to his bathroom. He pulled out towels and two robes. He handed me a towel. I took the towel and tossed it over my shoulder and bent over to pull off my boots.

“I think it best if you do this yourself.” He picked up a robe and towel.

“Why?” I asked. He had aided me in a bath why would he leave now? I added, “You told me you had not the taboo.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Because” he paused, “watching you undress may prove a bit hard to resist.”

He left me to my own and I quickly striped from the wet clothes and wiped the moisture from my skin. I walked silently out to his room. His back was to his boots and I laid tossed aside. His shirt already discarded. I stood frozen in place watching my dream expand. His muscles rippled across his back as he rubbed the towel in his hair. The towel tossed over his shoulder he released the button that held his pants. With his back still to me, he slipped them down and tossed them on the pile that grew on the floor. I marveled at his form. It was so much more than those of my land. His hands move across himself drying every bead of water that clung to him. He grabbed the robe and wrapped it around himself tying it.

I broke the silence I held, “Nice form, “I said as I bit my lower lip.

He turned around as if just being brought back from a deep thought. His lips smiled and as normal a question slipped from them, “Feeling dry now?”

” I have not gotten use to being wet.” I ran my fingers in my wet hair. He offered me a hand and we returned to the library. I knelt down in the center of the quilts and waited till he settled next to the table of the hot drink. I watched the flame dance in the fire as he tucked a pillow under his head. “Some times I wish I could be as bold as others.” I sighed.

Cufean’s narrowed his eyes. “Bold?”

“Like cat,” I chuckled at the memory, “Do you know what he did?”

He smiled brightly, “No, what did he do?”

“Let me show you.” I moved next to him and ran my fingertips along his ears, brushing the hair from them. If he were truly an elf he would feel the tingles which would grow into passion if I continued. Cufean frowned slightly. I removed my hand. “Why the sadness”

He smiled slightly “not sadness, puzzlement”

“Think he knew what he did?” Than I paused and looked at him, “Or does it not effect one not whole.” I held my breath waiting for his answer.

He shook his head “No … he didn’t know.”

“Does it effect you?”
I nodded slowly and smile of relief spread across me. “I am glad. I feared that things would not be as I read. I passed the course over all the other young.”

“Course? What course is that?”

I thought he jested with me, “The ways to please a mate. We are not allow to use the knowledge till we are mature though.”

” They teach that?” he seemed shocked.

“Of course,” I laughed at the thought of not being taught the basics. ” Don’t they do that here?”

He shook his head. “Here pleasing a mate is learned only by doing.”

“How would one know what to do and how to do it right?”

“Trial and error…There are books….thousands…but nothing compares to actual fact….a book cannot teach to proper touch.”

I felt foolish again, “So you would rather one that has mated before?”

” Thistle was innocent.”

I smiled at the name of his true love. If only her spirit would help me make him whole unto himself. Than maybe he could see me. “Talk to me of her, let me share in the joy of her. In your words I can know her and love her too.”

“It was the most incredible thing that ever happened to me.” He laid back, staring at the ceiling.
“She came into my life looking for help.” I placed my head on his chest and and listen to his heart and his words. “This beautiful golden haired elf, so quiet and poised in the midst of a rowdy tavern. I think I knew when I first saw her that I loved her. She was asking of Radell, her father. I offered my help and ended the day bringing her here, to my garden. She was to commune with her Goddess, Ishtar … and I offered haven for her body as her spirit roamed with Ishtar. Marie and I watched over her as she slept, I fed her soups and water, while Marie bathed her. She slept a full week and then we spent every moment to together. She was a virgin and so very innocent in love and the ways of love. Though I burned for her, as you do for me. I waited until she was ready and I would not have had it any other way. It was sweet beyond words …” He closed his eyes.

“As dream should be.” I stroked his hair lightly, “She was lucky.”

“No … I was lucky … lucky to have her even for the few moments in my life.” His jawed tightened.

“The flame blessed, to have a dream for a moment than never had seen the light.” I ran my fingers around his jaw.

“It is better to have loved and lost, then to never have loved at all.”

“That is much prettier.” His words of the green always much more than mine.

“I sit up on the tower and stared into the sunrise, trying to see her asleep in the furs….the sun just touching her golden hair.” Ghost Archer blinked, unshed tears filling his eyes.

“I understand that.” I placed my finger to his eye and stole a tear unheeded from him and placed it to my lips.

“Do you see why I do not love? I am still too filled with the pain of loosing her.”

“Till you I did not know it was.” I confessed, “I did not understand the secret Josho told me. I did not know but I will learn.”

“Your land is poorer for not having love.”

“Pain I understand,” I tore away from my spot by sitting up, “The burning is dark.”

“No … it is not ‘dark'” he watched me as if wondering what went in my mind.

“Josho agreed with you.” I looked into the dance of the flames again.

“What did he say of it?”

“He broke the laws and he took my mother while he was a protector.”

“What laws?” he questioned.

Never would he let me tell all before he asked me yet another, “and his veins burned. He said in me was her and as long as I lived they would live”

“He was in love.” He was happy at the thought, but his question sounded again, “Why couldn’t he take her while a protector.”

“Protectors can not have a clouded mind. They only protect. My parent was the most honored one ever lived and I killed him.” I did not mean to say that by the flame I knew he would not let it lay. I turned totally away from him and tried to cool my blood by the flame.

“Why do you say you killed him?” he sat up and laid his hand upon my shoulder.

“I know pain of lost. That is not to linger either. “I wanted to finish the first point before moving on

“And why do you say that killed him?”

“Because I did.”

“What happened?”

If only Valoki was here I would not have opened the pain inside me. I looked into his eyes the river of tears streamed down my cheeks. I could not refuse him and he did judge my people by my words and I spoke of all the forbidden and dark things that was so few in my land. Cufean gently took my tears and puts it to his lips. I melted at the action. Only Josho had ever taken my tears, taken my pain.

“Will you tell me?” he asked for understanding

My tears seemed to flow stronger but the inner sobs stayed inside. “I can not refuse you. ” I started to tell him where he should know the start, “I was different than others, not just in looks. Josho shielded me all my child life but when I became young he had to make a new choice in life.”
Cufean pushed my hair back behind your ear, his fingers brushing the tip ever so lightly. “He tried to mate one more time, but no seed took and he returned to being a protector.” I needed to add my friends, “I liked to be with the great ones and ride upon their wing. This was frowned on. No great one does anything without wanting a task, duty or seed in return. I was ordered to stop.” I thought of my Valoki, “They once even tried to take Valoki. Josho stopped them from that foolishness.”

Cufean watched my eyes as the flame danced before me, letting me call back the tales of my life.

“Josho was distracted from protecting still trying to be my parent. I was not a well behaved young. They wanted to test for dark in me but again Josho stopped them”

Cufean smiled slightly, as if he could see me in the mischief I so ever did get myself into. His eyes narrowed, “test you?”

I nodded and continued, “The test of dark. I felt things that none others did. I thought things others did not but I learned to keep things to myself and only unto Josho and Valoki.”

“What things?” he again side tracked from the tale.

Did he not wish to know of the tale that he wanted me to speak in twisted circles? I inquired, “Thoughts or the feelings?”

“Both.”

” I had longing for the wing of the great ones.”

“That is ‘dark’?”

I shook my head, he was not understanding he was asking too many questions to hear my words but how could I refuse him. “To want something beyond normal is dark.” I had not the words to explain.

Cufean smiled slightly “Do not let Tsar hear you say that.”

The calling of the great one name made me sigh, “I owe him to much as is. I have protected my son though. He can not claim my little Josho,”

Cufean was still in his own words, “He would not but he might give you wings.”

“I don’t want wings,” I thought of Everith and hers. No I would never want wings of that sort, “I want to fly on them. ” I returned to the comments of my son, “As long as I hold by the green. He can not claim my seed, unless he wants to have his grow in mine”

“He?”

“Nick”

Cufean chuckled, “I think Rouge would not allow that. Tsar would not want that of you…his only love is Rogue.”

” When dealing with great ones you have to protect carefully.” I sighed again, “I owe Nick to much.” I dried my eyes as the new subject did not tear in my spirit. “Valoki says he wants my soul and my greatness and Valoki as a chew toy.”

“I am sure he will take any offer you make to pay him back and what does Valoki think of me?” That I, too, will use him as a chew toy?”

He does not like the pain you have put me through. He feels you will only bring me pain and no happiness. He thinks I should run far away and hide from you.”

Cufean looked a little sad at the words I spoke and said to me, “He is right…though I do not mean too.”

“No he is wrong.” I looked dead into my dreams eyes and did not get lost, “Even though my veins heat even now and the pain it can bring can blind my mind. I would not have it any other way. The pleasure your smile brings. The pleasure of your touches I would bear this pain a 100 times fold for just one kiss

Cufean squeezed my hand gently, “Sometimes I wish I can be all things to all people. In my mind I can see you holding my child. In my mind I can see us sharing a life. In my mind I know it would be wonderful…the best thing to happen to me.”

“Even if I have dark in me?”

“Dark in you?” Cufean face smiled wide, “I see no dark.”

I smiled noticing the robe belt had untied again. Cufean watched me as I tried to adjust the tick material so foreign in my hands. I completed the bow but it still was to lose. “I was never very good at this. ” I thought of Josho conditionally tying every thing for me.

“You have a beautiful body.” He commented with out thought

“I like yours better” I said playfully.

He chuckled within himself, “I guess it is a matter of view.”

I took my hand and ran it from his shoulder down his arm. “It is hard for me not to touch you.”

” It is hard for me…as well.”

“I am trying to understand why you resist.” I paused, “I am trying to wait and understand.” I removed my hand and laid down upon the quilt with my back to him. “I am sorry. The way of the green is so different than the way of mine.”

Cufean sighed softly. He reached out and touched my hip lightly. He whispered softly in my ear, “It is not the way of the green. If I were of the green, I would take you and be done with you. That is too easy… I want…I need to give more that a brief moment of passion. You deserve more…you deserve to be loved.”

“Till you I did not know love was. It is the duty that I bear a seed.” I could not tell him I was to do it in my land; the blood burned to strong, “I left before I mated. Normally, seekers must leave their seed behind before they leave.”

Cufean moved behind me, his body fitting to mine. “Why didn’t you?” He slipped his arm around my waist and propped his head up on his hand.

“I was promoted to mature before my time. After Josho passed I just wanted to be gone. The need was there and I knew more than any other and I was accepted by the seven, the elders had no choice but to send me.”

“They wanted you out.” He said with contempt in his voice. He did not understand.

“No, the seven didn’t.” I had to try clear his mind, “I felt sadness from them but I had to leave. I love my home. I love the way of my people but with Josho gone I had nothing and that is a dark feeling and it was all my fault.”

“I think you need to explore the feelings you call ‘dark’. How was it all your fault?

“How can I explain the happiness of my people if I let the dark take me?” Again he asked I once more opened to the nightmare in my spirit for him. “I was being disobedient. I had taken a flight on the wing of the great one Blue.”

He hammered me with questions again. Had he not listen to me at all? He asked, “What did you do that was disobedient? Blue? Why is this bad?”

Now I was lost on how to answer him, “Blue was one of my best friends. Another great one had taken payment of one of the sons of the forest. The elders screamed. They wanted no one to play with the great ones so they would go.”

More questions came, “Payment? Who was the son?”

“What was his name or which line?” I tried to clarify

“Why had the great ones take a son of the forest?”

“Payment of favors,” I couldn’t believe knowing one himself he did not know the basic, “No great one does anything for free.”

“What favors? He asked.

I now had lost count of all the things I was to speak of and could not figure which one he really wanted to know. I was in his questions. “Many stories where told on that. Some things are not good for all to know.”

“Such as?” he seemed to be testing me.

“But it was forbidden for me to take wing.” I felt lost and answered in no pattern, “To question the leaders decision is a very bad thing. Even a tint of dark”

Cufean growled softly, “It sounds as if your society is very repressive.”

My head spun like a top, “I am not sure of that word.” I knew it could not be good the way he had growled, “My people are happy and fruitful and live long and full lives.”

“And kept in the dark.” He added.

“No, we are not dark! Maybe me but not the others.” He did not understand and I was at a lost of how to explain the truth.

“Kept in the dark” is a saying. It means not told all there is to tell.

I held on to the one thing he asked the most of and continued, “Blue, could always get me to do what he wanted.”

“And what did he want you to do?”

“On this day he wanted me to take wing with him.”

“And what was wrong with that?”

“It was forbidden. Just like none are to leave the rim or only the miners and protectors can go to the under where the dark live. Or none are allowed but protectors and elders in the seer’s rooms.” I continued ignoring the interruption. “So I climbed up and stroked his soft skin under the third scale.”

“Little elf…the more I hear of your land the less I think I would like it.”

I knew it he judged on the dark and forbidden words I did not refuse him. “But I tell you of things that are not to be spoken. There is so much light. Good there. Your green is not like in the books. You have monsters that smash men into puddles.”

“Do you know what I am forbidden to speak of here in the green?” he said with a sound of distaste.

“No, I don’t.”

“Nothing.” He seemed angered within himself and added, “It is my right to say anything I wish. It is called freedom of speech.”

“But the books do not tell of all the dark and evil that walks here.”

” Okay! Look! You have to understand the difference between fact and fiction.”

“I am not to talk and say of the dark in my land because like you, people will only dwell on it and the dark is very little.” I felt so attacked by him. It hurt.

Do you know what would happen if I came to your lands?” I heard the venom of the dark in his voice. I had heard the sound in the dark ones of my land.

“You would be unhappy because you are tied to the green.” I did not want to face what I knew he would say.

“No, I would destroy your land. Something dark is running through it. I would seek it and expose it.”

“I don’t understand.” I had freely let him see the dark and yet he stated what I already knew. The dark ones where there and so where my people. The people of the light. I laid on my back and looked into his eyes. His hand ran across my belly.

My boiling blood spoke for me, I had no care for my teachings. “Than any seed you share will be for you alone. Like my bearer …” I corrected myself for him, “Mother gave me to Josho. I would give you yours. Than no one could claim it but you.”

” I would not have it so.”, the coldness in his eyes began to leave, “A child should have her mother and her father.”

” I am learning.” I knew I had to stand by my word. I did not drop that talisman as a show. If he wanted me to be a green mother I would do so for him. “It is hard to take on things so different than what you have always known. I meant what I said before. I would give all to have but a moment with you.”

His mind slipped into the dream of children, “I would lay our child here…between us…and gaze at her, seeing you in her as you would see me.”

I smiled and changed the dream, “He would be strong like you with the vastness of you soul.”

“And SHE would be beautiful, like you with a gentle, sweet soul.” He played back at me.

I could not help myself, “He will have your green eyes that can make any heart stand still,” I smiled into his eyes and he into mine. “I guess I could carry twice for you, one boy for me and a girl for you.”

“Only two?” He grinned, “I tease … and should not.”

“You mean people seed more than twice with the same one?” this was a new thought to think of. To be seeded many times by the same mate.

“I have an aunt with eleven … and two sets of twins.”

It was my turn to question, “Where does she live and think her children would like to go to the forest.” I gasped as I realized the statement of twins, “Twins as in two born onto one mother at one time.”

“Yes.” He seemed amused now.

“That is only a fable of old.”

“No triplets in my family though. In the green there are seven born at once.” He was pleased to announce this fact.

“We of the forest have only one. If the seed will take. Many times the flame will not allow the seed to grow. If the line is to close the flame will prevent the seed to be fertile.”

His mind went in to thought again, “That is curious … I wonder why that is?”

“If the line is to close than the child might not be strong of mind and body. That is why there is seekers. We seek mates. We seek elves first and than others second but this land was known to be void of our kin.”

“Where do you seek elves?”

“But they will make us stronger.”

“Then why did you come here?”

“It was where the draw of lots sent me.”

“Lots, huh?” he growled, “I bet it was fair.”

I added in a different story to try and clam him. “The greatest seeker, besides the first seeker was Tibs. He brought us back a whole group of elves. There were enough of them for each mate to have two and the tree of change did little to them. ”

His eyes were again cooling, “I wonder at this ‘change’ that is wrought.”

” It helps you become one to the flame. I have entered many times but it never did anything to me.” I giggled, “Again I was being dark. I use to sneak in and watch the magic at work.”

Cufean looked confused, “You are not one with the flame?

“No,” I felt I spoke the truth to him, “but they all believe I am. Josho hide my dark well.”

“What is the dark in you?” he than requested, “Show it to me.”

“There is just bits and pieces of it all over my spirit.” I knew not how to fill his request.

“Show me one then.”

I thought, than spoke, “Like when the man last night lost his flame. I felt nothing. I had his blood on my skin and felt nothing.”

“Nor did I.” He confessed.

“That is dark.” I said firmly.

“Then I am dark too.” I wasn’t sure if it was a question or a statement.

“I know that. ” I off handily said, “But I love you.”

“In my world … I am a force of good … I hunt evil … I destroy it if I must …”

“In the forest you are to honor those who’s flame past. For the passing of a cycle of work and than you are to let it go. I could not do that neither.”

“Do you think I have let Thistle go?”

“NO, but this place has this new love thing. I understand it.” I paused trying to figure the words, “I shouldn’t but I have always had it in me.” The blood boiled and fogged my mind as the deep thoughts flooded me and my lips let them flow “Josho only had his because he left the rim to get her. If only I wasn’t such a rotten child he would still be protecting the people.” Cufean rolled on his back and laced his finger behind his head and gazed up at the ceiling. “Instead he is the present that Nick gave me and I wronged him so.” I stopped my words I was rambling, “I must be boring you.”

“No … I am trying to understand. How did you wrong him?”

I thought for a moment, of which wrong did he want to hear. I returned too most painful of ones.

“I took my dragon ride when a warning sounded. The Proctors need to protect our rim from the dark. The trees wail in pain when danger enters the rim

“What was the warning?” He rolled back onto his side, his hand once more on my belly. “What was the danger?”

“I don’t know but I heard the wail as blue dropped me to the floor far from the sight of the circle.” I explained, “I can hear far more than others but I can not feel as much as them. ” I need to continue before he asked another question. “I was making my way back to the circle. I wasn’t watching. I wasn’t paying attention. They grabbed me.”

“Who?”

“The dark one took me from the above.”

“What happened?”

Again he was not willing to give me time. The questions rolled fast like the time of the green moved. I choked on my words, as I had never told even Valoki of this time. “I was to be one of their…. I believe the word is slave. I was not mature yet so. Other uses could not be considered

“In this world that would not have been considered.” He again had that tone of distaste.

I started to cry and turned to the flame. “Even the dark knows that till you are deemed mature your organs can not reproduce. ” I knew they had considered it and had chosen the one I would mate with. I pushed it back into the corner of my mind, “I was made to obey. I was made to watch.”

Cufean hugged me gently but asked for me to give more of my pain, “made to obey? Watch what?”

The vision replayed in my mind and the nothingness of my spirit shadowed me as repeated it to him, “I was picked to help with the blood rite of the dark I was not allowed to look away at anything they did.” I felt his kiss upon my hair some where out of myself as the vision took hold.
“I was held like a prize. Princess of the dark ones is what the others called me as a child and they where going to make it so. The Dark one held a secret and displayed my art proudly.” The living art moved and I ran my hand on it. I was back within my self. “I wonder what I was really marked for greatness or destruction.”

“It will not be destruction. Not while I live.” His words sounded hollow but I still was filled in the pain of past and the burning pain of my blood. I laid my hand upon his that rested on my hip. Such pleasures such pain. A thousands times would I go through the pain to feel the pleasure.

My voice felt unreal as I spoke, “The blood rite took the spirit of our kin and placed it in a stone of black and the blood was drained from the body. I know not what was done with the body after that.”

“Human sacrifice?”

“Yes, but they willing went and the flame was put into a stone. I was anointed with some of the blood. I am not sure of what it was really all about but all I wanted was to return to the trees to run back to Josho and beg him to forgive my foolishness.”

“How did you escape?”

“In the under there is only shimmering of light. Much like your night and I was chained to the stone when I did not work. I still don’t know the measure I was there but I was to listen to the humming of the spirits of the stone. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder. His great sword dripping in blood and his gentle smile holding my soul. Josho had broken the law and came for me. He unchained me and guided me away from the stone.” I broke out in sobs.

“It sounds like he loved his daughter more then life.” Cufean sounded full of compassion for my pain but he didn’t understand.

I pulled back my tears to explain, “He was not my parent any more he broke the law. He was a protector.”

“Once a parent, always a parent.” He said softly to me.

“Not in my land.”

He tried to comfort me in a different thought, “if he was a protector…he was protecting you.”

“Once the dark one takes someone they are considered lost,” I knew I was lost and he could not understand but still I tried, “No one is worth risking many to regain. A parent is a parent till you are young. I broke the rules by continually going back as a young. I clouded his mind with my dark.”

Cufean gently pulled me over so he could look into my eyes. “You are wrong, Raven. None of this was your fault and I would have done exactly as Josho.”

“If I had obeyed the rules his mind would not have been clouded. If I had obeyed I would not have been grabbed. If I had ran fast after they slit him instead of fighting …” I cried. The wounds felt fresh again. The fight where I first open my mind and tore into the dark. The bodies that laid at my feet as I fought to save my dead parent. Fought to save or destroy. Many flames did my mind’s eye take.

“And if I had loved Thistle better she would not be gone.” He pulled me into his arm and held me. I clung to him like a vine on a bough.

“Than I disgraced him. I did nothing right. Even now I fail. I can’t even get the one I love to …” I fell into silence and cried on his chest and melted in his warmth.

“You have the view taught you … drilled into you, by your society. I have seen nothing wanting in you. I have not seen any mistakes other then mistakes due to a lack of knowledge.” His words soothed the wounds and I wanted to live in his view but they where not the teaching I knew.

“But I am a seeker I am suppose to know.”

He quieted me, “You can’t know everything.”

“I have to, “I began to regain my mind but not my blood and wiped the tears.

Cufean sparked yet another pin into me, “and did you ever think that your information might be wrong to start with?”

“It has been the way since all can remember. It is just not the way of the green. ”

Cufean embraced me tighter, his lips pressed to my forehead “You will learn, little elf.”

I feel asleep within his arms. The blood burning to new heights and the pain stretching over the whole of me but the pleasure of the spirit increasing to the extent no being, not even a great one could find a single word to describe it. Even if I wrote a life a time the words it would diminish the pleasure of his embrace, within my sleep it brought. My dreams where only lightly troubled but cleared to the dream of him. He was my one and only and though it was not the belief of my land it was engraved into my spirit.

I awoke in his arms the fire had consumed the wood and the air ran cool against my moist skin. I opened my eyes and sat up to his eyes staring back.

“Are you ill?” he questioned.

“No, just my veins.” I replied.

Cufean touched my cheek then kissed my forehead, feeling the heat.

I smiled weakly, “I need a hot flame.”

He looked worried, “Where can you you get this flame?”

“Nick gave me the way.” I kissed him, than I tried to stand and my legs wobbled, “I need to get my things.” I leaned on the chair to gain my balance. I felt so weak and the burning was different this morning. Every movement caused my muscles to pain but I hide it inside as not to bother my love with it.

Cufean was to his feet in a moment and held me straight with his arm around my waist. I wanted to melt inside of him.

“You are not well…let me take you to the auto-doc.” His voice seemed on edge.

I could not hear him well. His heart drowned his words. “Mmmmm I love your touch.” Something inside me realized his words and I answered him. “No, I’ll be fine. You take cold showers and I need my flame or you.”

Cufean helped me into the bathroom. “Are you sure?”

“Yes,” I leaned away from him as my head swirled, “I guess you don’t burn in the same way as I do.”

“I do not pretend to know what is normal for you … but lov … if I where that hot I would be deathly ill.”

I went to the neat pile of my things that laid on the counter. I laid all but one vial on a towel. “You will do your magic on these?” My eyes locked to on his and the wild reared. I pushed it down turning back. I felt my limbs weaken more. I placed the talisman and locket around my neck.

“What will you do with the last one?” Cufaen held out a hand for the last vial. “You had best let me have that too.”

“This one I keep.” I scooped up my clothes.

“It is dangerous, Raven.”

“I will explain later.” I felt like I was slipping and took hold to steady my self, “Yes, it is dark.”

“What use is it to you?”

“May the flame forgive me,” I handed him the vial

“Raven, explain now.” He demanded as he held up the vial looking into it.

“I …” my head spun. “It is a thing I can not share but for I can not refuse. Please later. I need.” I paused as I let my body weigh more heavily on the counter. “I need to go or I need you to bed me.”

“Raven … when you return … you will tell me.” He continued his insists.

“Which would you have it?” I felt the hunger taking over me but his other question needed answer, “If you ask again I will tell.” I opened my locket and looked into the the flame. I looked into his eyes waiting for a release. I wanted to bed him and not run to the flame. Cufean sighed, fighting his own urges. “Decide now!” my voice was not my own, “I must cool in the flame or in your bed.”

He clinched his fists and told me, “Go …”

I found a little of myself left to say, “I do understand Cufean.” I laid in the sand and flame for a long time. My strength never fully coming back to me. My stomach turning and releasing the bile from with in. My muscles eased in the flame and my blood slowly cooled. I thought long and hard and knew I would ask for this again. The memory of the pleasure out weighed the pain of the burning. I do so love him. The man of my dreams. The one and only of my blood.

I went back to the mansion and spirit Spock returned me to my new home.

Raven’s Personal Log 8 I took this time to write and to play with my son as I waited for Mystic and Cat to return.
